Crews and control operators from Cornwall Fire & Rescue have been working exceptionally hard to look after our beautiful countryside.
With warm, dry conditions increasing the risk of wildfires, please take extra care when enjoying the outdoors.
Most wildfires in the UK are started by human activity, so small actions can make a big difference. One spark from a barbecue or controlled burn in this weather can quickly get out of control.
Here’s how you can help:
- Avoid fires or barbecues whilst the wildfire risk is considered very high
- If you have to light a fire or barbecue, never leave it unattended
- If you smoke, dispose of cigarettes responsibly and make sure cigarettes are completely extinguished
- Always make sure you take any rubbish home
If you spot signs of a wildfire, move to a safe location and call 999 immediately
Wildfire smoke can also affect people’s health, especially those with asthma, heart or lung conditions, older people, young children and pregnant women, so it’s important to help prevent fires before they start.
Please help to look after our community and stay safe this summer.

If you are unfamiliar with the location or address of an incident, then we recommend using What3Words. This is the simplest way to communicate that precise location in an emergency and it supports response teams in coordinating their operations. There is a dedicated app available in the App Store for Apple and the Play Store for Android devices.
* Please remember to only call 999 in an emergency.
